I don’t ordinarily have the confidence to put together my own world music festival (let alone one with absolutely no budget), but with the encouragement and support of Elena Martiniuc at Nothin’ Less Cafe, I did just that. I had lots of help, of course- performers willing to play for free, recommendations for prospective acts, and even some folks who mentioned wanting to help out at another event next year.
Here are some highlights of Around the World in Eighty Hours, which ran from July 29-31 during the Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival. During the whole preparation process I kept telling myself “I’ll never put myself through this again,” but it ended up being so much fun that I’ll probably want to do it again next year.
